Crowns Without Glory

Ninety-three million miles away a king wears a crown. At fractions of a micron, there’s another king wearing one, too.

Our sun hides a crown beneath its light. The corona floats dimly all around this body, while the sun still exhibits a heavy, kingly presence. The planets fall in orbit around this burning ball of fire. It’s like when fanatics blindly follow a star for his fame. But is the sun as mighty as it makes itself to seem? “When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]”…how could something so high and blazing and powerful just wrap up where its light cannot save itself? [Takwir 81:01]. The sun itself is a witness to a greater King. Our King has guided the sun to use its light to determine our schedule and when to fast and pray. The King commanded the sun to share its light with a rock, as most kings don’t like to share. The king suspended in space that seemingly boasts a crown, will be gone away with the rest of the universe. It will be engulfed into darkness with nothing to remain, except the True King.

Stomping our Earth for centuries, kings and queens have done. They have commanded their officials to partake in so many political movements and war. Many, not all, tried oppressing the citizens. Some royalties were desperate to wear the mask of God. And a good number of them are credited to redraw the Earth’s map, determined to expand their reign. Their hunger for not only land, but fame and riches and legacy was ultimately matched with downfalls. Their kingdoms collapsed, or are well on their way. The glistening crowns and the passionate chants of “Long live the King” were no match for their written fate from the True King.

Within us lies another crown, keeping order in the land. Our coronary arteries gracefully surround our heart, providing clean blood to the king of our body. Its constant pumping of blood emphasizes its command over the body. But the True King again has devised for the heart to be something more than a physical pump. He guides it towards exhibiting emotion, good judgment and spirituality. Such a powerful organ in the body is directed by its King to present so many different forces, leaving no independence to itself. Each heart pumps one last drop and then lays motionless, no longer able to serve that kingdom, this is at the decree of the True King.

The coronavirus, the tiniest king maintaining its crown, has invaded the bodies of millions worldwide. It has paralyzed just about every aspect of our lives and remains invisible to all types of eyes. The virus dictates not only the world around us but the world within us, forcing our cells to fight him. This king ignites fear to subjects 15 million times its size. Its power strengthening by the day, and trying to triumph in as many battles as it possibly can. But like every other disease (except death), its cure has been sent by the True King.

It seems like this little king is quickly proceeding to rule the world. But like every other king in this universe, its demise is destined to come.

Allah (SWT) is Al-Malik, the King. He undoubtedly is the True King and He doesn’t run a small portion within the universe, rather its entirety constitutes His Dominion.

We may be awe-struck by the massiveness of the sun. We may be disconcerted by the conduct of royalty. We may be stunned by the intricacies of the heart. And we may be terrified by the multiplication of the virus.

How about we take the time to build our faith stronger in acknowledgement of Allah’s king-like creations, which carry no real sign of kingship except for their crowns.

But for each of these things, their ends are near, some closer than others.

King Corona, you’ve drastically changed our lives, but you won’t be crowned for so much longer.

Our King has promised that, while His Kingship will never end.

After all, Allah is As-Samad, the Eternal.
