Lover’s Quarrel

--

A lover’s quarrel nestled round my small-ish sized head

Some days I cannot help running my tired fingers through each comforting cotton thread

Soothing reminder of a faith I proudly represent

All atop my small-ish sized head.

A love for virtues this scarf in me has embed

Fabrics of sabr and courage, each woven with delicate intent

Framing my face ever so gently, both freeing and my closest friend

All atop my small-ish sized head.

Albeit there are days my chest heaves with dread

Scarves wrapped tightly, a target of hate in this country for many left unsaid

Thoughts racing, will I be okay today?

Will someone scream slurs at me till I’m left trembling in despair?

A lover’s quarrel nestled round my small-ish sized head.

Caught between fearing the unknown

Yet, respecting a scarf in which I’ve found my voice

But I promise you, this worldly challenge cannot compare

To the blessings from Allah SWT

All because of what sits atop my small-ish sized head.
